For the last two-plus years, I have received the internal guidance not to seek a regular job. Even Dada Vaswani, the Indian Guru whom I met in May of 2015, told me that I needed to stop thinking that I need to earn a living. I replied that this can be very hard to do in our culture. I think he reassured me that a worker deserves to be paid, but at the time, and since, I have not yet figured out what this means for me, or exactly what God has been asking me to do.
My sense of internal guidance speaks, and then often I seem to have followed a rational thought rather than an intuitive guidance. This has not been working well in terms of income and career success.
As a result, a couple of weeks ago, I woke up early one morning anxiously struggling with financial and career concerns. I felt in agony over not yet seeing a path clearly before in terms of how to earn income and to support myself.
Finally, I sat on the edge of my bed and addressed God in a way I believe that Paramahansa Yogananda modeled in one of his books, and I believe I read this in Autobiography of a Yogi. If I remember correctly, he actually prayed this prayer to the Divine Mother: “Divine Mother, I am your son and I am seeking you. You must come to me.” I just remember that he boldly prayed, “you must come to me.” Since I already trust the Divine Mother yet have needed to work on trusting the masculine aspects of God, I addressed the Divine Father.
I said to God, “Divine Father, I am your daughter and I am seeking you; you MUST come to me.”
Instantly, I heard God say to me, “Why do you seek external success?”
Next, it was as though God said two or three sentences all in one. Expressed one-at-a-time, they sounded like this:
“Seek internal success, and all else will follow. Seek only internal success, or all else will fail. Seek internal success, and all else will flow.”
Now, that was lovely. Clearly, I had become more focused on material, or external success, and that focus was failing me. This is not to say that focusing on material well-being will fail other people; clearly it does not. However, for where I AM on the spiritual path, my focus MUST be on connecting with God, and embodying the Divine Presence and Divine Will in all that I think, say and do.
I still have a lot of work to do!
However, I am so grateful for receiving that instantaneous response and guidance. What a blessing it is to experience God coming into one’s consciousness and speaking directly to oneself. Apparently, Paramahansa-ji’s prayer technique works when we are genuinely seeking God, and willing to be in alignment with God’s purposes.
Later, I remembered the experience in which I had a vision, while meditating, of becoming one with God’s wave of creation – the energy flow at the “edge” of the Universe, when I heard the Teacher Voice say, “Welcome to pure potential.”
Putting that experience with this experience of being told to seek internal success and “all else will flow,” a beautiful affirmation came to me:
“I am Being Itself from which all else flows.”
I invite you to know the truth of this statement for yourself – for our soul selves are indeed One with Being Itself, whom many of us call “God.”
May we all get clearer on how we are to “seek internal success,” or connection with the Divine Mother/Father. May we all seek, and find, that internal success from which all else flows.
Love and Light,
