Recently, the famous Indian “Hugging Saint,” Amma, returned to the Washington, DC area. I went to see her for the second time, bringing with me a couple of friends. The energy of being in the large room with Amma and so many devoted followers is intense, and a wonderful, uplifting feeling. One leaves energized and renewed. Of course, receiving a hug from Amma helps!
This year, I found myself being led to be aware that, while most people were focused on the Divine Presence within Amma herself, my attention was called to the Divine Presence in everyone in attendance, not just in Amma herself. So, I spent my time being aware of Divine Presence in everyone, which awareness perhaps might be easier to achieve and maintain in this setting than in some other settings.
This awareness brings one to a heightened state of consciousness, a very loving space. I love getting into that space and then walking around the grocery store, where people are trying to get into the same small spaces at the same time. Having a higher consciousness can transform the experience, especially if we keep it there!
Higher consciousness does not just entail an intellectual awareness. This higher consciousness is a partial sharing of the Divine Consciousness – a way of seeing and knowing that comes through our Higher Selves, the crown chakra, and perhaps even the Bindu.
I felt truly blessed by Amma’s visit, and found myself enjoying meeting people and experiencing this higher awareness. Oh, that we might be more fully aware of the constancy of the visit of the Divine Presence within each and every one of us.
May it be so!
Love and Light,
